NEW SERVICE!

In order to help customers in this time of the pandemic, I will be offering same day sharpening services every Thursday at my home workshop.  I will be waiting for your drop off order anytime between 11 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. every Thursday.

I will sharpen your items and have them ready for pick up, anytime between 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.

I will also still be providing my service at select Hy-Vee grocery stores and other retail locations around the metro area on most every Friday and Saturday throughout the year.

Also remember you can drop off your items at the home workshop anytime.  The usual turnaround time to complete an order is 3-4 business days.  The drop box door is always open!

Please see the monthly calendar listed on the website for the most up to date sharpening schedule.  You can also find the schedule for each store location, if you have a favorite store you like to visit.

Tips on How to Keep Your Knives Sharp

  • Always handwash your knives since a dishwasher can be very hard on the delicate edges of a knife
  • Whenever you're using a knife, make sure to use a cutting board as well. A wooden cutting board is your best bet
  • Store your knives in a safe place like a knife block, cardboard cover or magnetic holder
  • Using steel on your knives can help maintain their edge. You can refer to some online websites to learn the proper use of steel in sharpening a knife
Sharp scissors

Tips on How to Keep Your Scissors Sharp

  • Use fabric shears only on fabric. Using them on paper or any other hard material may damage your scissors
  • Always keep your scissors clean and dry
  • Make sure to store your scissors in a safe place
  • You can purchase scissor covers from any fabric store. These covers can help protect the edges of your scissors

  • Use a basic tool oil such as a three-in-one oil to keep your tools clean and moving well
  • Store your tools in a safe place
  • Store your tools in such a way that they don’t get damaged by exposure to other tools
  • When using a lawn mower blade, try to stay away from rocks, sticks and landscaping
